Closure of UK Schools - Further information for parents

The government announced this evening that schools, colleges and nurseries in England will close at the end of the school day on Friday 20th March 2020 until further notice to try to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Schools will continue to provide a childcare service for the children of key workers such as emergency workers, NHS staff, police and delivery workers and for vulnerable children with EHCP plans and/or a social worker.

Meals and vouchers will continue to be provided for children eligible for free school meals.

In order for us to plan to put this provision in place as quickly as possible, we will need parents who work in the professions above to provide us with information. The government will release more guidance tomorrow with the specific information needed and this will be sent this out as soon as it is received.

School has also been provided with a small number of food bank vouchers from the Rickmansworth Food Bank to help those families in receipt of free school meals through this period of uncertainty. I will make direct contact with the families who are eligible for free school meals tomorrow, however if you do experience difficulties in affording food whilst school is shut, please let me know through the urgent queries email (this is confidential and is seen by myself only).

I would like to thank you all for your continued support through this challenging time of uncertainty and thank the wonderful school team who have gone over and above to keep as normal a routine as possible for the children over the past couple of weeks.  It has not been easy and their resilience and determination reflects their commitment, courage and kindness.

Teachers will begin to set work on the class blogs from Monday next week and updates for parents will be sent via ParentMail.

Whilst school is closed, the following email addresses have been set up to enable parents to communicate with staff:

Urgent queries should be sent to myself at: contact@russell.herts.sch.uk

General queries sent to: admin@russell.herts.sch.uk

Queries about the work set online sent to individual class emails (please see ParentMail dated 15 March 2020).

All updates will be posted on the home page of the website.

Please stay safe and I look forward to welcoming the whole school back once this difficult time has passed.
