Attendance

If your child is ill please inform school by telephone or email on each day of absence by 9:15am, giving a reason for why your child will not be attending school. Attending School on a regular basis is the key to your child doing well at school and will set them up with good routines for later life and the working world, as well as giving your child the opportunity to:

  • Make lots of friends and feel included;

  • Increase confidence and self esteem;

  • Improve social skills;

  • Achieve potential and fulfil aspirations.

Our overall percentage for attendance is currently 98.2%. This is well above the national average figure but there is still room for improvement!In the table below are some interesting statistics which show the impact of absence from school. Children are required to attend school for 190 days each year. Government (DFE) research suggests that 16 days absence or 92% attendance in any one year can equal an approximately 30% drop in attainment.

Term Time Holiday

Please be mindful that family holidays should take place during the school holiday dates. These are published a year in advance. As a school, we are not permitted to authorise any holiday absence.

Promoting Good Attendance

Each week, during the whole school assembly on a Friday, three children are randomly selected from our ‘Hats off to Amazing Attendance’ DVD which includes a photo of every child in the school. Three photos are selected randomly and those children with 97% or more attendance from the beginning of the school year are able to choose an attendance prize!  The School Council decided that 97% was a fair target as a result of it taking account of illness, which of course cannot be helped!  The overall attendance of each class is monitored on Fridays and displayed on the Attendance display outside the hall. Our aim is for each class to reach 100% as many times as possible during the school year.  The class with the highest overall attendance each week is able to keep our attendance mascot in their class. At the end of every half term, all children with 100% attendance are awarded a certificate in assembly.  At the end of the summer term, all children with 100% attendance will receive an attendance trophy and a book token.

Punctuality

Timekeeping is also important in the education of your child. If children are persistently late, they miss out on important learning opportunities at the start of the school day.
